Shopify Order Forecasting is an AI-powered tool that analyzes your historical Shopify order data to predict future demand. It uses Facebook's Prophet algorithm, a state-of-the-art forecasting model that accounts for seasonal patterns, trends, and special events.

The predictions help you make data-driven decisions about inventory management, production planning, and resource allocation.

Forecast accuracy depends on several factors, including the amount of historical data available, the consistency of your sales patterns, and external factors that may influence demand.

The Prophet algorithm typically achieves high accuracy, especially when:

  • You have at least 90 days of historical data
  • Your sales follow recognizable patterns (weekly, monthly, or yearly)
  • There are no dramatic changes in your business model or market

The forecasts include upper and lower confidence intervals to give you a range of possible outcomes, not just a single prediction.

To connect your Shopify store, you need to create a private app in your Shopify admin and generate API credentials:

  1. Log in to your Shopify admin
  2. Go to Apps > App and sales channel settings
  3. Click "Develop apps" and then "Create an app"
  4. Give your app a name (e.g., "Order Forecasting")
  5. Set the required permissions (read access to orders and products)
  6. Generate API credentials (API key and API secret/password)
  7. Enter these credentials in our connection form

Your credentials are stored securely and used only to fetch order data necessary for forecasting.

Seasonality Mode determines how seasonal effects are applied to your forecast:

  • Additive: Seasonal effects are added to the baseline forecast. This is best for products where seasonal variations have a consistent absolute size (e.g., always selling about 10 more units on weekends regardless of the baseline).
  • Multiplicative: Seasonal effects are multiplied by the baseline forecast. This is best for products where seasonal variations scale with the baseline (e.g., always selling 20% more on weekends).

If you're unsure which to use, start with Additive mode, which is more stable for most products.
